My name is Squeak (The Lost Dog Update)

Well, it's been two weeks since we encountered the lost dog. We didn't get one call and have been feeling more and more like he was abandoned. Even though we initially didn't think we could keep him, we can't bring ourselves to give him up. We are testing the waters to see if he can stay. He is a good dog. We call him Squeak. He makes little grunting noises when he sleeps, but mostly he squeaks.

Lab Pups

I have been attempting to organize my film closet and stumbled across these images. They somehow managed to get lost over the years. It was nice to find them.

Halloween Haunt

Our neighborhood has an amazing community association and every year (among the many other great events they put on), they throw a super fun HalloweeHaunt. It's basically a block party filled with all kinds of booths--a haunted house, games, and snacks. Whole families come out in costume and the place is always packed. Every year we organize the photo booth where for a ticket, folks can sit for a polaroid (we do it old school). We go all out with backdrops and a full lighting set-up. The line for our booth usually goes around the block and it is three hours of TOTAL mayhem. But the people love it, and so we happily do it every year. Here are some of the adorable kids of 2007:

The Lost Dog

Last Sunday while my husband and I were walking Simon and Avery, a little dog appeared and started following us. It was clear he was lost. We've found lost dogs in our neighborhood in the past, and were able to return them home within hours by posting signs. So we took his photo and made up a handful of signs. While hanging the signs, we also knocked on every door on the street where we found him–nobody recognized him.

As we were posting the signs, a car pulled up and the driver told us he had seen the little dog earlier in the morning about six blocks away from where we found him. Obviously, this was discouraging news, so we made up more signs to cover a bigger area.

In addition to hanging signs, we listed him in the lost and found section of Craigslist, and took him to the local shelter to check for a microchip (which he didn't have) and to enter him into the shelter database for lost pets. It's been a week–nobody has called.

We started calling him Squeak because he sometimes, well, squeaks. We think he's around two-years-old and is a Chihuahua/Dachshund mix. With Simon and Avery and our very busy schedules, we just don't feel that keeping him is fair to any of the dogs. So, to prepare him for his future home, we visited the vet, got him his shots and an overall health evaluation.

We will be fostering him until we can find him the PERFECT home. I already know I will be really sad to see him go.

I have taken more photos of him which I will post in an update next week.

French Bulldog Puppies

Here are two shots from my new book--French Bulldogs : Lightweights Littermates. These five week old pups were crazy cute, and very mellow.

Buddy Wash and Rinse

Bath day for the dogs. We've been trying to keep the dogs' bathing regimen around once a month. We usually use Cloudstar's Buddy Wash Shampoo and Conditioning Rinse in the original Lavender and Mint scent. But, we ran out and noticed Cloudstar has added a new herbal scent--Green Tea and Bergamot. OHMYGOD, let's just say I'm going to contact the fine Buddy Wash folks and ask if they might make a people wash in Green Tea and Bergamot (or, at least ask if the doggy wash is, er, um, safe for human use).

Target Shoot

My photo assistants hard at work! They had NO clue I took this photo of them. Amusing for all on set. The question is--is Chuck looking at Craigslist or youtube?

The Bachelor

Last night on the Bachelor they aired the Women Tell All special, but it was mostly just a Hillary train-wreck--poor girl. Nothing too exciting happened, except that I did make the discovery that Bettina's dad sounds exactly like Mister Rogers--I don't know how I could have missed that the first time around. Next week Brad makes his big decision. Please don't let it be (gimmie a J-E-N-N-I) Jenni.

Lenny

This is Lenny -- a twelve week old Pug/Basset Hound mix. The photos don't show them, but he has some serious puppy teeth, and I have the marks to prove it! I hope I'll be able to photograph  him again as he gets older. If his paws are any indication, he could grow to be as big as a Basset Hound --  but hopefully he'll never grow into those giant ears!
